LI - I can demonstrate an understanding of the diversity of my culture.
Learning about my culture was so much fun. I learned so many things about Austria that I didn't know before. I had to do a lot of research for my project and one of the things I used was the C.R.A.A.P test, which will help you find reliable websites. As we were researching we were taking down notes, and then we took our notes and made them into paragraphs and created a presentation to share with the class. I created my presentation using PowerPoint. I learned a lot of interesting facts about Austria, including:
It was cool talking to my grandparents about Austria, they have actually been there 4 times. For my presentation I was able to bring some things that my grandma got in Austria. She had a bell, an Austrian flag, and a dirndl which is the women's traditional clothing. I also made a traditional cookie from Austria.
Overall I enjoyed learning about my Austrian heritage and sharing that information with my class.

- How small Austria is - you can drive from north to south in about 3 hours (294km), and from east to west in about 6 hours (580 km)
- The Austrian flag is one of the oldest in the world, dating back to 1191
- Edelweiss is Austria’s national flower which translates to ‘nobel’ and ‘white’
- The oldest zoo in the world, founded in 1752, is located in Vienna
- There are 8 European countries that border Austria, they are: Germany, Czech Republic, Italy, Slovenia, Hungary, Switzerland, Slovakia, Liechtenstein
- They have very colorful celebrations, for example the ‘Glocklerlauf Procession’ held on January 5th. At night the men dress up in white, wearing big leather belts with heavy bells and colorful elaborate lanterns on their heads and then they walk through the streets in their villages. The procession is to shed light during the dark winter and to bring luck for the new year.
