L.I. I can create a research based project which shows an in-depth understanding of an ancient civilization.
Personally I thought that this was a really great project. When we first started this project I already had some knowledge on Ancient Egypt, but as we continued working I learned so much more. We first started by researching and taking notes on 5 subtopics, the topics were Environment, Technology, Economy, Government, and Social System. I did a lot of research on each of the topics. After we finished our note taking we turned our notes into paragraphs. Then everyone started to work on their presentations. There were so many different forms of presentations in my class. Some people used a form of digital presentation called Prezi, others used Google Presentation, and some people used a software called PowerPoint. There were also people who created some really cool posters, and a lot of people made models. I used PowerPoint for a digital presentation, and I also created four models.
The first model I made was a model of the Great Pyramid of Giza. I used a large piece of cardboard for the base, and I used raw sugar cubes to build the pyramid. I covered the base in many different materials to give it a really cool sandy look. I used some brown sugar, raw sugar, and some dark brown colored sugar. I also made a Nile river beside the pyramid. I made it with three different shades of blue. I made the colors by getting three small bowls with regular white sugar, then I added blue food coloring. To make darker shades I added more food coloring, and then I put lids on each container and shook them until all the sugar was blue. Finally I sprinkled the sugar on the area I drew for the water. The second model I made was a sarcophagus and a mummy. I made the sarcophagus by covering a q-tip box with paper mache, and then gluing a plastic doll onto the top. Then I covered the doll with paper mache and finally painted the entire box. For the doll I added some additional details with different colored paints. For the mummy I used another doll and covered it with strips of gauze. To make the gauze look aged I soaked it overnight in a cup of coffee. The third model I made was a diagram of the inside of the pyramid of Giza, the diagram shows the King’s chamber, the Queen’s chamber, as well as air shafts. My last model was a display of the ancient hieroglyphic alphabet. I made it by researching and then drawing each of the shapes for each letter and then pasted each picture to a piece of cardboard.
I really enjoyed learning about this ancient civilization it was fascinating.
